From the Badacsony region in Balaton, the 'Friss' - which translates to 'Fresh' - is made from 100% Olaszrizling.
Olaszrizling, also known as Welschriesling, is indigenous to the region. It is also the local grape of choice for Balaton's wine producers.
Bence Laposa is no different, as he has built his reputation on this grape!
His Olaszrizling is pure and clean with a bright yellow tone. Citrus notes dominate. On first sip, there's a hint of pineapple. This, then gives way to a mild spiciness. A complex yet easy drinking wine.
All in all, an excellent introduction to the Laposa style. Good expression of the fruit (notes of, pear, apricot, and almond) and rich in minerality from the terroir (volcanic soil).
Best served at 12-13 degrees as an aperitif, to salads, white meats and fish. But, it may be consumed as a spritzer, as well!Laposa2014Type:White Wine0.75 l£9.99
Simply put, the 2015 Laposa Pinot Gris, or Szurkebarat in Hungarian, is a stunning wine. Alsatian in style, it is rich and complex.
On the nose, it is slightly floral with notes of acacia. Aromas of peach and pear come to the fore. And, if left to breathe, a hint of honey and grapefruit also comes through.
This is a medium to full bodied wine which displays good fruit and a refreshing acidity.
Long on the finish, it is its minerality which makes this a truly special and unforgettable wine.
All in all, a perfect marriage of the grape variety with the volcanic soil of the Badacsony Wine Region.
Best served at 13-14 degrees. It pairs well with cheeses, light vegetable dishes, and pastas.Laposa2015Type:White Wine0.75 l£10.99
The 'Laposa 4 Hegy' - or 'Laposa 4 Hills' in English - is a one of a kind Olaszrizling.
It is made from grapes picked from vineyard plots situated on four extinct volcanic hills - Badacsony, Csobánc, Somló and Szent György-hegy.
On the nose and palate, it is clean, has good fruit, and pleasant hints of mint and flint.
Laposa has struck a perfect balance between acidity and minerality in this wine.
Given the unique way in which this wine is made (i.e. 4 Hills in a bottle), it has now achieved iconic wine status in Hungary.
Best served at 13-14 degrees. Pairs well with fish (e.g. pike-perch and sea fish), pasta dishes and grilled/barbecued white meats.Laposa2013Type:White Wine0.75 l£12.49
Kéknyelű translates to 'blue stalk'. An indigenous grape, it was once widely planted throughout Hungary.
But, due to its extremely temperamental nature and tiny yields (it is cultivated in the ancient style with male and female grapevines) it came close to disappearing altogether during Communist times.
It is now found almost exclusively on the north shores of Lake Balaton - where very small quantities of this remarkably unique wine are produced.
Laposa's Keknyelu is a single vineyard wine. It is delicately perfumed and refined and has a real sense of place.
The characteristics of the Badacsony region are unmistakable in this wine - it is light, complex, rich in minerality, clean and pure.
100% Keknyelu and the very definition of a Terroir wine!
Laposa, the winemaker, describes his Keknyelu as "Versatile and special. Serious yet graceful. In other words, a true gentleman"Laposa2014Type:White Wine0.75 l£13.49
