Samuel Tinon in Decanter's 'Top 11 Tokajis' – 2nd November, 2009
Our very own Samuel Tinon has made it into Decanter's 'Top 11 Tokaji Wines' this year with
his groundbreaking Tokaji Dry Szamorodni 2003.
Samuel's Dry Szamorodni 2003 is a stunning, complex and utterly delicious, tangy dry wine
that has been aged under “flor” for over 6 years. Szamorodni means “as it comes” in
Polish and there is a long historical tradition of aged dry wines in Tokaj. Samuel himself
spent time in the Jura region to learn how to make wine using the flor technique of
ageing under a cover of yeast – as used to produce “vin jaune” from this French region
or fino sherry from Spain.
A real show-stopper at the Decanter/ Tokaj Renaissance led 'Discover The Magic of Tokaji'
all-day event; here is John Abbott's tasting note on the wine:
TOKAJI DRY SZAMORODNI 2003 – SAMUEL TINON (November 3, 2009)
Darker gold. Heavy oxidisation – akin to quality sherry. Wild flowers and honey dominate –
a real depth of complexity, with an impressive rusticity. High acidity with drying finish.
